Asian stock markets opened volatile, investors still worried about the economic recession.

Asian stock markets opened mixed today. It moves in line with the S&P500 index market which dropped on Wednesday (Dec. 7) as investors were still worried about the economic recession.

The NIKKEI 225 index on the Japanese stock market opened today at 27,622.30 points, down 64.10 points or -0.23%. The HSI index on the Hong Kong stock market opened today at 18,965.05 points, up 150.23 points or +0.80%. And the SSE Composite index on the Chinese stock market opened today at 3,196.02 points, down 3.60 points or -0.11%.

The US stock market's S&P 500 index fell for a fifth straight day last night as investors remained concerned that the Federal Reserve's (Fed) tightening monetary policy would impact the economy and the performance of listed companies.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 33,597.92 points, an increase of 1.58 points, or +0.005%, the S&P 500 closed at 3,933.92 points, a decrease of 7.34 points or -0.19%, and the Nasdaq Index closed at 10,958.55 points, a decrease of 56.34 points or -0.51%.

Japan's government revised up its estimate for third-quarter 2022 gross domestic product (GDP) figures today, showing a contraction of just 0.8% year-on-year, better than the initial estimate of a 1.2% contraction and the 1.1% contraction economists in a Reuters poll had predicted for the quarter.

On a quarterly basis, Japan's Q3 GDP contracted by 0.2%, better than the preliminary estimate of a 0.3% contraction.
