EGAT joins hands with Japanese companies Develop carbon reduction technology

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Mr. Supattanapong Punmeechaow , and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Yasutoshi Nishimura, witnessed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Mitsui O.S.K. Line Co., Ltd., Chiyoda Corporation, and Mitsubishi (Thailand) Co., Ltd. for the study and development of a comprehensive clean hydrogen and ammonia project. Additionally, an MOU was signed with TTCL Public Company Limited for the study and development of biofuel production technology, and another with IHI Corporation for the development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology. These signings took place at the 1st Asia Zero Emission Community Ministerial Meeting, hosted by the Japanese and Thai governments on March 4, 2566, in Tokyo, Japan.
Mr. Nithat Woraphanpipat, Deputy Governor for Fuel at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that EGAT prioritizes the global energy trend shifting towards clean energy. Therefore, it has been seeking new alternative fuels for electricity generation that reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Hydrogen and ammonia are considered fuels of the future that do not release carbon dioxide during combustion, while biofuels are clean, environmentally friendly renewable energy sources. BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) technology helps manage and store electricity from renewable energy sources more stably.
Cooperation in all three MOUs will allow for the exchange of technological knowledge from leading international companies, leading to the advancement of clean energy technology. Increase business opportunities Used in electricity generation in Thailand It also helps create energy security along with a good environment. and sustainability of the global climate in the future It is an important step in Thailand's energy transition.
EGAT aims to respond to government policy in leading the country towards carbon neutrality by 2593 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2608, driven under the 'Triple S' strategy, which includes
- Sources Transformation Increase the proportion of electricity produced from renewable energy. Improve the power plant and electrical systems with new technology to support the production of electricity from renewable energy and bring BESS into use.
- Sink Co-creation increases carbon absorption resources Moving forward with the million rai reforestation project. Including studying the use of new technology in carbon storage and
- Support Measures Mechanism promotes participation in reducing greenhouse gases in the public sector. Through the Electricity Saving Label Project No. 5, promoting the use of integrated electric vehicles, etc.
