Mr. Songphon Chewapanyaroj The Secretary-General of the Government Pension Fund (GPF) revealed that the GPF and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) have signed a memorandum of understanding on promoting financial knowledge, investment, and promoting social and environmental sustainability. The objectives are to promote knowledge and understanding of finance, investment, and entrepreneurial skills for GPF members and the general public.

The GPF aims to promote savings for its members so that they have enough money to spend in retirement. Building strong financial skills is an important issue. Therefore, it has collaborated with the Stock Exchange of Thailand since 2561 by providing knowledge in various forms, such as training courses on financial planning, debt management, investment, including a project to create financial mentors so that they can provide advice on saving to other members.

“The GPF and the Stock Exchange of Thailand have been working together for 7 years, which has been successful in having members interested in improving their financial skills through learning courses from the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Members who have participated in various projects have increased their investment rates and reduced their debt burdens. This cooperation is therefore an extension of the previous success by expanding the target group to enable members to change their financial behaviors,” said Mr. Songpol.

In addition, the GPF SET e-Learning online course linkage has selected courses that meet the needs of members in each group through organizing learning playlists into 3 age groups, covering knowledge content in both financial planning and investment, including a group of members who are just starting to work and need to plan their finances; a group of middle-aged members who need to manage expenses and invest to make their savings grow; and a group of members close to retirement who need to prepare for a happy retirement.

side Dr. Sornphon Tulyasathien The Deputy Managing Director of the Stock Exchange of Thailand said that the Stock Exchange of Thailand is an agency that plays an important role in developing the Thai economic system as a center for fundraising for the business sector and securities trading for investors. Another important mission in developing the capital market for sustainability is to focus on building a foundation of basic financial literacy, which is considered a necessary life skill for people of all ages and levels. Therefore, the Stock Exchange of Thailand has implemented projects to build life skills in financial planning to be stable and ready for the current financial situation, such as the “Happy Money, Happy Young Old, This Old (Also) Have to Use” project to promote basic knowledge in money management for retirement, allocating the last lump sum appropriately and sufficiently to support oneself throughout life through activities that focus on creating knowledge and understanding, combining theory and practice. There is also knowledge provided through the online course SET e-Learning, which is designed to be in line with new learning methods, responding to digital learning, covering debt management, financial planning and retirement, which has attracted a large number of GPF members to continuously study, hoping to gain knowledge and skills to be able to manage their own money effectively.

The cooperation between SET and GPF will create knowledge and understanding and prepare GPF members to have strong financial skills. SET is ready to support and perform the duty of promoting learning about savings and systematic financial planning to the target group, leading to helping develop the country to grow sustainably and stably.
