THCOM signs contract with SpaceX to launch Thaicom 10 satellite into orbit, expanding communication services to cover the entire Asia Pacific region

On October 4, 2024, Mr. Pathomphop Suwannasiri, Chief Executive Officer of Thaicom Public Company Limited (THCOM) , revealed that SpaceTech Innovation Company Limited (STI), a subsidiary of Thaicom, had entered into a contract with SpaceX, a US-based space technology company specializing in the construction, design, and launch of the most advanced rockets and spacecraft in the world, to provide the launch service for THAICOM-10, a new Software-defined High Throughput Satellite (SD-HTS) of Thaicom, into orbit.

THAICOM 10 is a new generation SD-HTS satellite with a capacity of 120 Gbps (Gigabits per Second), designed and built by Airbus Defence and Space SAS (France). It can adjust its service area, number of channels and frequency bands while in orbit, meeting various application requirements and expanding communication services to cover the entire region, enhancing service levels for customers and partners throughout the Asia Pacific.

SpaceX will launch the Thaicom 10 satellite into orbit at 119.5 degrees East on a Falcon 9 rocket, the world's first reusable rocket, in Florida, United States.

“Thaicom has been a long-standing partner of SpaceX, starting with the launch of Thaicom 6 in 2557, which was one of the first satellites to be launched by the Falcon 9 rocket. Given this success, we have chosen SpaceX to launch subsequent Thaicom satellites, given the advanced technology and reliability of the Falcon 9 rocket.

“We are confident that this collaboration with SpaceX will ensure the successful and cost-effective launch of the Thaicom 10 satellite into orbit, as planned,” said Mr. Pathomphop.
