Global “gold ETFs” see 5 consecutive months of inflows, up $1.4 billion in September as total holdings rise to 3,200 tonnes
October 9, 2567, Reuters reported that World Gold Council (WGC) revealed that Global gold-traded index funds (ETFs) saw inflows for the fifth consecutive month in September. North American registered funds have increased their holdings
Gold ETFs, which store physical gold for investors and account for a significant portion of demand for the precious metal, hit a record high of $2,685.42 an ounce on Sept. 26, boosted by the start of a U.S. interest rate cut.
After three consecutive years of outflows amid high interest rates, the past five months have seen net outflows in dollars year-to-date of $3 million.
Gold ETFs saw inflows of 18.4 metric tons, or $1.4 billion, in September, bringing total holdings to 3,200 tons, as stronger gold prices and recent inflows pushed total assets under management to a late-month high of $2.709 billion in September.
The WGC and the global gold mining industry group estimate that global gold trading volumes rose 7 percent month-on-month in September to $2.59 billion per day, while average over-the-counter (OTC) trading volumes rose 10 percent to $1.76 billion.
With gold prices up 28% this year and the prospect of a U.S. interest rate cut in the future, speculators increased their net buy position on the COMEX by 6% from August to 976 tonnes by the end of September, the highest level since February 2563.
