BOI reveals "Well Tech Electronics", a major Chinese PCB manufacturer, will open its first production line after a large investment wave flows into Thailand from 2566, totaling more than 90 projects, with an investment of more than 1.6 billion baht.

On October 16, 2567, Mr. Narut Teodsathirasak, Secretary-General of the Board of Investment ( BOI ) , revealed after visiting the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing plant of Well Tech Electronics Co., Ltd. at Rojana Industrial Park, Ayutthaya Province, that...

As there has been a wave of investment in the PCB manufacturing industry, which is a key component of all types of electronic devices, which has been continuously investing in Thailand since the beginning of 2566.

One of the new BOI-promoted companies, Welgao Electronics, a subsidiary of Chinese high-tech PCB manufacturer Welgao Electronics, was the first to start production in Thailand in June after building a 64,000-square-meter factory and installing machinery in less than a year.

Wel Tech Electronics' factory has an initial investment of over 2.5 billion baht. Its main products will be multilayer High-Density Interconnect (HDI) PCBs, capable of producing up to 30 layers in the first phase. The company is planning a second phase expansion in an adjacent area, which will be significantly larger and increase PCB production capacity to 50 layers.

Multilayer PCB will be used for highly complex electronic devices or devices with a large number of electronic components, such as data servers and power supplies used in electric vehicles (EVs), data centers, and electronic products using AI technology. The company will sell 40 percent domestically to customers in the EV and electronics groups and export 60 percent to other countries, with more than 50 percent of the raw materials expected to be domestically produced.

The main reason why Well Tech Group decided to expand investment in Thailand to become the first major production base outside of China is because they saw the potential and readiness of Thailand in terms of infrastructure, strong supply chain, supportive measures from the government, and quality personnel to support the production process that uses advanced technology.

This PCB manufacturing plant will be a Smart Factory that uses the most advanced production technology, combining AI technology and intelligent systems in every step of production, including the use of AGV robots to move products. In the first phase, more than 500 Thai employees will be employed, most of whom are engineers and technicians, while there will be no more than 10 Chinese executives.

In addition, a product research and development center will be established, which will employ more than 40 Thai researchers to jointly develop technologies in 5 fields: advanced materials development, microelectronics, manufacturing systems, environmental management, software development and AI. In addition, there will be cooperation with 4 Thai universities in Bangkok and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya to create a curriculum to develop PCB personnel.

In the past year (1 – September 2566), there have been 2567 applications for investment promotion in the PCB industry, with a total investment value of 95 billion baht. These include expansions of existing manufacturers such as Mektec, KCE, and new investments by global PCB manufacturers, especially from China and Taiwan, who have invested in large numbers, such as Unimicron, Compeq, WUS, Gold Circuit, Chin Poon, Dynamic Electronics, Apex Circuit, Unitech, etc. Most of these are under construction and will be completed and start production lines starting from the end of 162,000 onwards.
