The spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office stated that the Chairman of the Committee for Resolving Marine Fisheries Problems, aimed at restoring marine fisheries and the fishing industry, proposed that certain provisions of the Fisheries Act B.E. 2558 (2015) and the Fisheries Act (No. 2) B.E. 2560 (2017) are inconsistent with domestic fishing methods. This has negatively impacted fishermen, forcing some to abandon fishing and hindering their livelihoods.
At the 3rd meeting of the Committee on Resolving Marine Fisheries Problems for the Restoration of Marine Fisheries and the Fishing Industry in 2566, held on December 15, 2566, a resolution was passed approving the amendments to the draft Act. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC), through the Department of Fisheries, then conducted a public consultation with stakeholders, during which the majority of participants agreed with the draft Act. Furthermore, a report analyzing the potential impacts of the law was prepared in accordance with the Cabinet resolution (November 19, 2562), and the results of the consultation, along with the impact analysis, have been published for public awareness.
In this regard, the Ministry of Education has presented a plan for preparing secondary laws, a time frame, and a framework for the essence of secondary laws issued under the draft Act, totaling 21 bills (consisting of 1 ministerial regulation, regulations 2 issues and 18 announcements)
