SEC Hearing Adds 2 More Cryptocurrencies “USDC-USDT” to the List of Cryptocurrencies for Trading and Exchanging Digital Assets with Thai Baht, from the Current Number of 5 Lists

January 17, 2568 The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Open for comments on the principles and draft announcement to improve the list of cryptocurrencies announced by the SEC Office to allow digital token issuers to accept cryptocurrencies in return and digital token offering service providers (ICO Portal) to accept cryptocurrencies from investors or Issuers in transactions, and to allow digital asset exchanges to buy, sell, or exchange digital assets with Thai baht using 2 additional cryptocurrencies: USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT).

As the SEC has set a list of cryptocurrencies that Issuers, ICO Portals, and Digital Asset Exchanges can receive as compensation or transact or use to trade or exchange on Digital Asset Exchanges.

There are currently 5 names: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), Stellar (XLM) and cryptocurrencies used in testing programmable payments under the Enhanced Regulatory Sandbox according to the criteria and conditions of the Bank of Thailand (BOT).

The Thai Digital Asset Business Association (TDO) and the private sector have proposed that the SEC consider adding more cryptocurrencies. The SEC has considered the proposal in terms of liquidity and overall risks involved and believes that adding cryptocurrencies will increase flexibility in doing business for Issuers, ICO Portals, and digital asset exchanges. Therefore, there is an idea to improve the cryptocurrency list by proposing to add two more cryptocurrencies to the list: USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT).

The SEC will closely monitor developments in the supervision and impact of the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), as well as the actions of Tether and foreign operators, to consider adjusting the principles as appropriate.

The SEC Office is therefore open to hearing opinions on the principles and draft announcements regarding the cryptocurrency list announced by the SEC Office. The documents on the principles and draft announcements have been published on the SEC website. https://www.sec.or.th/TH/Pages/PB_Detail.aspx?SECID=1060 and the legal system https://law.go.th/listeningDetail?survey_id=NDg0MERHQV9MQVdfRlJPTlRFTkQ= Interested parties and stakeholders can express their opinions on the website or via e-mail: watan@sec.or.th and perapong@sec.or.th until February 1, 2568.
