It was found that 86% of this group of tourists use technologies such as AR, VR or AI to help them find information and plan their trips. 81% choose to book flights and accommodation online by themselves, while 78% say they are willing to pay more to support sustainable tourism.

Miss Chansuda Thananitayaudom, Executive Vice President Commercial and Marketing Division Grab Thailand It has revealed important statistics of tourists in the ASEAN region, which is one of the main markets that travel to Thailand in large numbers each year.

In 2024, Thailand welcomed 10.6 million tourists from these countries, accounting for 30% of all tourists. This is from a survey on travel behavior of Grab users in 6 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Of the 11,074 respondents surveyed, 81% plan to travel internationally (up from 72% last year), with 52% wanting to travel within Southeast Asia, followed by East Asian countries (44%), such as China, Japan and Korea.

Followed by Singapore and Malaysia, with the beauty of natural tourist attractions and cultural charms, which are considered soft power that the government is trying to promote and push, including organizing various events such as food festivals, music festivals and concerts, and important traditions such as Songkran and Loi Krathong festivals.”

2. DIY Trip: Adventurers plan and book themselves.

The majority (81%) of travelers choose to plan their own trips, with almost two-thirds of them booking everything online, including flights, accommodation and attractions, while 18% are willing to purchase a tour package to save planning time.

3. Budget-conscious: Have fun traveling but be frugal.

82% of travelers plan their budget and set their trip expenses in advance, although more than half of them tend to spend more than they set. Additionally, 56% increased their trip spending more than the previous year, while 53% are concerned about inflation.

4. Safety First: Safety comes first.

It was found that 68% would choose to purchase travel-related insurance, including travel insurance that covers damage or loss of luggage, flight delay or cancellation insurance, and health insurance.

Today’s travelers are increasingly concerned about environmental issues, with 45% choosing to support sustainable travel, such as using eco-friendly vehicles, reducing plastic use and supporting local businesses or communities, while 78% say they are willing to pay more to support businesses that share this philosophy.
