On January 22, 2568, CNBC news agency reported that US President Donald Trump threatens to impose high-level sanctions on Russia and tariffs on Russian goods. If Russia fails to reach an agreement to end the nearly three-year war with Ukraine,

Trump's warning, posted on social media platform Truth Social on his third day in office, explicitly called out Russian President Vladimir Putin by name, stating:

“If no deal is reached, and soon, there is no alternative but to impose high tariffs, duties and sanctions on any goods sold by Russia to the United States and its participating countries.”

Trump has said on multiple occasions that he could end the war in Ukraine within a day if he is elected to a second non-consecutive term in the White House. The war began in February 2 with the Russian invasion.

But Trump's message to Russia on Wednesday (Jan 22) revealed his intention to use economic weapons to attack Russia in the same way as he has threatened US allies such as Mexico and Canada if those countries do not comply.
