OIE moves forward with drafting measures to restructure 9 industries

The OIE is moving forward with the drafting of measures to adjust the structure of 9 target industries, aiming for the industrial sector to contribute to the country's GDP growth of no less than 1 percent without using the budget.
Mr. Phasakon Chairat, DirectorOffice of Industrial Economics (OIE) It was revealed that the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) has moved forward with the drafting of measures to adjust the industrial structure by gathering opinions from relevant parties in both the public and private sectors to jointly set goals and support measures in the short, medium and long term.
Including urgent projects for fast results (Quick Win) and industrial structure directions for 9 target industry groups, including the automotive industry, plastics industry, medical equipment industry, steel and metal industry, robotics and automation industry, electrical and electronics industry, bio-based industry, food industry, textile and garment industry.
“The industrial restructuring will help revive the Thai industrial sector to become an important engine that will increase the driving force of the country’s economy, under the cooperation of all sectors. The goal is for the industrial sector to contribute to the country’s GDP growth of no less than 1 percent without using the budget, in accordance with the policy of the Minister of Industry, Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, who focuses on “industrial reform towards a modern, clean, convenient, and transparent economy.” It is expected that it will be presented to the Cabinet for consideration around February 2568.” Mr. Phasakon said
For each industry sector, development directions and target products for restructuring have been determined, including:
- automotive industry Aim to develop products that Thailand has the potential to be a production base (Product Champion), such as passenger cars, 1-ton pickup trucks, new product groups including hybrid electric vehicles (Hybrid Electric Vehicle: HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (Battery Electric Vehicle: BEV), including automotive parts groups.
- plastic industry Focus on plastic products that contain a high proportion of recycled plastic to support the move towards a low-carbon society.
- Medical device industry The company will focus on producing medical devices for diseases that have a large number of patients and high treatment costs, especially non-communicable chronic diseases, including: 1. cardiovascular disease 2. diabetes 3. cancer 4. hypertension 5. chronic kidney disease
- Iron and metal industry To create competitiveness of Thai steel industry, aiming to produce steel that is environmentally friendly, such as steel bars, hot rolled steel sheets, steel pipes, steel wires and prefabricated structural steel.
- Robotics and automation industry Promote the use of robots and automation systems in the industrial sector, including promoting design businesses, creating innovations, and developing human resources in robots and automation systems.
- Electrical and electronics industry Focus on attracting investment in upstream industries and advanced technologies, enhancing potential
- Electrical appliance industry Originally, there was High Value/High Technology, including research and development for further development.
- Bio-based industries Focus on developing products in the bioplastics, biochemicals and oleochemicals groups.
- food industry Focus on developing basic food product groups that are food security and future food product groups that focus on generating income to elevate the country to a high-income country.
- Textile and garment industry Focus on product development from upstream to downstream, such as Technical Fiber, Technical Textile and Fashion Brand.
In addition, the development of business environment factors that support the overall industrial restructuring to be carried out more effectively, such as human resource development, research, technology, innovation, production processes, improvement of laws and regulations, infrastructure development, etc.
