Both China and the United States have shown no signs of slowing down their conflict, with Trump recently announcing tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese goods, while China has retaliated by imposing tariffs of up to 125% on US imports.

Xi Jinping has chosen Southeast Asia as the destination of his first foreign trip of the year, hoping to preserve relations with regional countries and prevent them from joining hands with the United States in a way that could harm China's interests. Despite a 90-day tariff waiver from the United States, Trump's threat of more tariffs has prompted many regional governments to tread carefully between the two superpowers.
