“Army Commanders’ Meeting” emphasizes protecting sovereignty under the law, raising readiness levels on the Thai-Cambodian border

The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces led a meeting of the commanders of the armed forces, emphasizing the protection of sovereignty according to the law and the safety of the people, and raising the level of readiness on the Thai-Cambodian border.
On June 6, 2025, at 2:45 PM, at the Royal Thai Air Force Headquarters, General Songwit Nunphakdee, Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, chaired a meeting along with the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force, and the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police.
The Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces expressed his gratitude to the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Air Force, and the Royal Thai Police for their strong support of the government, particularly in safeguarding national sovereignty along the borders in all situations. He emphasized the necessity of performing duties within the framework of the Constitution, and stated that all branches of the armed forces are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to support the Royal Thai Army in every aspect.
In this regard, the Royal Thai Army presented a detailed report to the meeting on the clashes at the border area of Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani Province, covering the events before, during, and after the incident. The report affirmed that the actions of Thai soldiers were strictly in accordance with the law and rules of engagement to control the situation and prevent escalation, adhering to the line of defense that Thailand has consistently followed.
The army explained that the clash occurred while Thai soldiers were patrolling in Thai territory and were fired upon by Cambodian soldiers, who returned fire. The Thai side has already provided a full explanation through official channels. However, even though Thailand has coordinated through the negotiation mechanism that both countries had agreed upon, it has not resulted in resolving the situation as much as it should have. In addition, additional forces from Cambodian soldiers were detected, which is a threat to national security.
The Army Commander has ordered all units to raise the readiness of personnel, equipment and emergency response plans to cope with emergency situations if military measures are necessary to respond to encroachments on sovereignty and protect the people.
In addition, the meeting also acknowledged the preparation of support from all armed forces to fully protect the country, especially in joint intelligence operations, joint operations, joint logistics, and information support to other government agencies, such as the Military Map Department providing geo-informatics intelligence (GEOINT) to the Joint Boundary Committee (Thai side) of Thailand-Cambodia (JBC), military intelligence departments of all armed forces closely monitoring the situation, and preparing to explain to foreign military attaches in Thailand, including Thai military attaches abroad, the facts and the measures of the Thai government and military to resolve the situation.
The Royal Thai Police reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting national sovereignty, ordering the Border Patrol Police and police units in border areas to be fully prepared in terms of personnel, weapons, and equipment. This includes developing contingency plans, intensifying intelligence gathering, and rigorously monitoring cyber threats, particularly the spread of fake news. Furthermore, they emphasized increased screening of foreign nationals along the border to prevent security risks and close coordination with the military, both on the front lines and in the rear, as concluded by the end of the meeting.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, the Royal Thai Navy, the Royal Thai Air Force and the Royal Thai Police have clearly expressed their joint intention to fully support the Royal Thai Army's mission in terms of planning, operations and coordination with all sectors in order to maintain the independence, sovereignty and dignity of the Thai nation, while emphasizing the importance of operating under international principles and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The Royal Thai Army would like to ask the people to have confidence in the performance of the army and the Royal Thai Police in protecting the sovereignty of the nation and maintaining the safety of the people. We also invite the Thai people to join together in using their discretion in receiving news and information and to join as an important force in maintaining the stability, peace and unity of the Thai nation sustainably.
