"Prasert" moves forward to push for Landing Rights policy to support foreign satellite services

"Prasert" drives forward the Landing Rights policy to support foreign satellite services, targeting citizens and entrepreneurs, and driving the space industry to elevate the country's economy.

Date 15 July 2568 Mr. Prasert Chantararuangthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE) Chaired the 1/2568 National Space Policy Committee meeting, with Miss Sudawan Wang Suphakit Koson Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Ms. Linthiphon Warinwatcharoj Deputy Minister of Education and board members from various important agencies such as the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Budget Bureau, Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, Office of the National Security Council, board members with expertise in various fields.

along with Special Professor Wisit Wisitsaratha Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of DE As a board member and secretary Mr. Wetang Puangsap Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission Lieutenant General Suwat Yotprakob Director-General of the Department of Defense Information and Space Technology, Mr. Pakorn Apphan, Director of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, as a co-assistant secretary, attended the meeting.

Mr. Prasert said that the government places great importance on promoting the development of space technology and geo-informatics in Thailand, including providing satellite data services and applying these technologies to solve problems and develop the country in various areas, such as investment in space businesses from the public and private sectors to enable the space industry to drive the country's economy, agricultural management, disaster management, and natural resource management.

Mr. Prasert said that in this meeting of the committee, the meeting gave its approval to the (draft) policy for consideration of permission to use foreign satellites to provide services in the country or the Landing Rights Policy and the (draft) announcement of the National Space Policy Committee on the criteria at the state level to be used in considering permission to use foreign satellites to provide services in the country B.E. ... according to the Ministry of Digital Economy.

The Office of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission proposed this issue, which is an important matter in creating opportunities and challenges from the entry of foreign satellite communication operators. The government needs to prepare and set appropriate supporting policies, which can create a competitive balance among satellite operators, along with opening opportunities and choices for the public, operators, and government agencies to access and utilize foreign satellite technologies and services. This matter will be submitted to the Cabinet for further consideration.

In addition, the principle of the (draft) National Space Master Plan, which has been revised based on the recommendations of the National Economic and Social Development Board, has been approved and the process will be carried out to present to the Cabinet for consideration. The progress of Thailand’s space operations and future missions have also been acknowledged, such as the signing of the Artemis Accords, progress on space cooperation between the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) and the People’s Republic of China under the International Lunar Research Station Establishment Project, and the results of operations on the (draft) policy and action plan for space traffic monitoring and management.

Special Professor Wisit Wisitsaratha Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of DE As Secretary of the National Space Policy Committee, he said that the National Space Policy Committee has been informed of the progress of the implementation of the National Communication Satellite Operation Policy from the results of the Committee Meeting No. 1/256566, which is currently being submitted to the Cabinet for consideration and assignment of relevant agencies to proceed.

There is also a report on the progress of space operations in Thailand from 2567 to present, which is carried out through the driving mechanism of the National Space Policy Committee, covering 3 areas: policy, law and regulation, international cooperation and space infrastructure. In driving the country's space affairs, there are many relevant agencies involved in the operation by expanding the scope of development and utilization of space activities linked to other digital technologies, as well as covering important digital infrastructure that will support Thailand as a country that can reduce inequality and create economic, social and environmental stability.
