Decoding Healthspan: Extending a healthy lifespan with technology and nature

In an era where technology is transforming industries around the world (Global Disruption), the healthcare system, which is one of the most important infrastructures of a country, is also facing challenges and opportunities for historic change. Despite technological advancements, most systems still work in the form of “reactive medicine”, which is a response to diseases that have already occurred, rather than proactive prevention of diseases that prevent the cause from occurring (Preventive Medicine).
According to 2019 data, Thailand spends 1.6 trillion baht per year on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), or 9.7% of Thailand's GDP, which creates huge economic costs and is not sustainable in the long run.
This structural problem is caused by our focus on “lifespan” while neglecting “healthspan”, the time period during which people can live a healthy life. The gap between lifespan and healthspan is becoming a macro-risk for the country, which requires both technology and nature to solve.
I propose a new approach to unlocking the future of health, which consists of two components working together: the “Base Layer” that is based on nature and the “Tech Layer” that is technology. When working together, they create a synergistic approach to extend the period of good health and redefine lifelong wellness.
1. Base layer The basics of nature: Natural Design 6 Powers Law of Longevity
If we think of the human body as a complex, information-based system, it is a biological and physiological structure. We process all the factors in our daily life all the time to maintain balance and good health. This gives rise to our body's natural design, which is like the basic protocol of the human body to function at its best. Which consists of 6 iron rules for a long life (6 Powers Law of Longevity) as follows:
-
- Sleep: Sleep is essential for physical and mental health, affecting everything from cognition to immunity to cellular repair.
- Diet: A healthy diet is crucial to preventing chronic disease, affecting everything from mood to gene expression.
- Hydration: Water is essential for all physiological functions, and even minor dehydration can negatively affect brain and body performance.
- Exercise & movement: Movement reduces the risk of chronic disease, improves cardiovascular and mental health, and maintains good physical function as we age.
- Environment: Our external environment and internal state, from air quality to stress levels, have a profound impact on our health.
- Community and Social Relationships: Strong social relationships are very important in terms of affecting mental health, health behaviors, and mortality risk.
These pillars do not work in isolation, but are deeply interconnected, and when they work together they form the foundation of health. Ignoring this base layer and jumping to technology is like running the latest software on hardware that is about to break down – it will not yield good results.
2. Tech Layer Technology section: Bio Code Completion Engine
With a strong foundation from these six pillars, technology will act as an accelerator for Bio-Code Completion. Today’s technologies can gather vast amounts of data – from genetic profiles, advanced lab results, to real-time data from smartwatches – and use artificial intelligence to analyze this data to identify molecular pathways, genetic risks, or lifestyle imbalances that could impact an individual’s future health.
Technology can decode our bodies on a level never before possible and provide health advice that is no longer one-size-fits-all, but hyper-personalized. This could be nutritional recommendations based on genetics or an exercise plan that adapts to our stress and energy levels in real time. Technology has moved beyond “guessing” to “using data” for health decision-making.
“The future of wellness is personal.”
The integrated mechanisms of the Base Layer and Tech Layer are the core of the new healthcare system: Preventive, Predictive, Personalized, and Participatory. By embracing this fusion of nature and technology, we can unlock a new era of Sustained Vitality, making long, healthy lives a reality for all.
