UN Secretary-General calls on Thailand and Cambodia to exercise utmost restraint to halt border tensions

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls on Thailand and Cambodia to exercise maximum restraint to halt border tensions
On July 25, 2025, the United Nations published a statement on its official website stating that the dispute between Thailand and Cambodia began in 1953 when France mapped the border, but tensions flared up again in May 2568 after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a border clash.
Farhan Haq told reporters at UN headquarters in New York that UN Secretary-General António Guterres was following the situation with concern over reports of clashes.
“The UN Secretary-General called on both sides to exercise utmost restraint and resolve the existing issues through dialogue and in an atmosphere of good neighborliness, with the goal of finding a lasting solution to this dispute, ” Huck said.
