Putin ignores Trump's deadline to end the war with Ukraine by August 8th, insisting that Russia will fight and negotiate while maintaining its advantage in the war.

Aug 2, 68 Russian President Vladimir Putin Russia still hopes to negotiate peace with Ukraine, but Russia currently has the upper hand in the war, a sign that President Putin has not changed his stance despite the US's August 8 deadline for Russia to end the war in Ukraine or face sanctions.

US President Donald Trump has said he will impose additional sanctions on Russia and countries that continue to buy energy from Russia, particularly China and India, if Russia does not end its three-year war by August 3.

However, President Putin said the past three rounds of peace talks with Ukraine had yielded positive results and that Russia expected the talks to continue.

“If someone is disappointed, it is because their expectations were too high. This is a well-known principle. But if we want to resolve this issue peacefully, we need to have detailed discussions, which should not be done publicly, but quietly, through a dialogue process.” President Putin said without mentioning Trump.

He also said that the Russian army is attacking the entire Ukrainian front and that the situation on the battlefield is pointing to Russia's advantage.

“I want to reiterate that we want a lasting and sustainable peace, based on a solid foundation that is acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine, and a peace that guarantees the security of both countries.” Putin said
