Effective! The United States has begun implementing reciprocal tariffs, imposing import duties of up to 50% on its trading partners. India and Brazil are being hit hard, with the tariffs effective August 7, 68.

On August 7, 2025, at 1:32 PM, CNBC reported that U.S. President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs went into effect, imposing higher import tariffs on goods from several trading partners.

"It's midnight!!! Billions of dollars in taxpayer money are now flowing into the United States!" Trump posted on the Truth Social platform.

He had previously posted that the tariffs were aimed at countries that had exploited the US for years. Last week, ahead of the August 1st tariff deadline, Trump revised some tariffs and extended the deadline to August 7th.

Some of the highest tariffs include Syria at 41%, Laos and Myanmar at 40%, while Switzerland, which failed to reach a deal with the US in time, faces a 39% import tariff.

In another case, Brazil and India each face tariffs of 50%. Brazil's tariffs have already taken effect, while India's remains at 25% and will rise to 50% by the end of the month, according to an executive order signed on Wednesday. Trump said the tariffs on India are due to India's continued purchases of Russian oil.
