Beijing has suspended imports of fishery products from Japan, officials believe following Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's parliamentary remarks on Taiwan, even though exports have only recently resumed after the easing of an earlier ban.
On November 19, 2568, at 15:24 PM local time, Nikkei news source revealed Senior officials of Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Revealed on Wednesday that The Beijing government informed Tokyo this morning that China is suspending seafood imports from Japan. The decision appears to be in response to recent remarks in parliament by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Taiwan.
Japan only resumed seafood exports to China earlier this month after a partial ban was lifted.
China previously imposed a ban on all imports of fishery products from Japan in 2023 in response to the release of treated wastewater into the sea from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which was severely damaged by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
A source told Nikkei: that The Chinese side has explained that it is necessary to assess the scrutiny of treated water and expects the import suspension to continue for some time.
