Asian stock markets closed mixed today (November 25, 68) after US technology stocks rebounded sharply from buying in AI stocks, responding to hopes that the Fed may cut interest rates in December. Speculation boosted technology stocks in Japan and South Korea, while Chinese and Hong Kong markets fluctuated due to profit-taking and domestic policy uncertainty.

Japanese stock market

Although the Nikkei index closed flat, AI and semiconductor stocks rebounded strongly, boosted by Google's Gemini 3, which boosted confidence in the development of global AI technology.

  • The Nikkei closed at 48,659.52 points, up 33.64 points, or +0.07%.

Top stocks Advantest +4.18%, Tokyo Electron +3.05%, while Lasertec closed flat after intraday volatility.

Chinese stock market

Chinese stocks swung on selling pressure after hitting a morning high, although the CSI 300 closed slightly higher, as policy uncertainty and selling in tech stocks limited upside.

  • The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,870.02, up 33.26 points, or +0.87%.

Investors are still waiting to see the government's approach to the technology and real estate sectors.

Hong Kong Stock Market

The Hang Seng Index pared gains in late trading after initial buying pressure slowed due to concerns about China's policy and selling pressure on large-cap stocks.

  • The Hang Seng Index closed at 25,894.55 points, up 178.05 points or +0.69%.

The market is still awaiting signals of policy easing from the PBOC after not rushing to implement economic stimulus measures.

South Korean stock market

The KOSPI continued to rise on buying in technology stocks, despite the uncertainty surrounding expectations for a Fed rate cut. Investors continued to speculate on large-cap chip stocks.

  • The South Korean Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) closed at 3,857.78 points, up 11.72 points or 0.3%.

Samsung Electronics +2.69% boosted the market, while SK Hynix fell slightly -0.19%.
