Asian stock markets today (December 3, 2568) saw mixed movements, with Japanese and South Korean stock markets leading regional markets, following the strong recovery of US technology stocks. Meanwhile, Chinese and Hong Kong stock markets faced continued profit-taking amid domestic policy concerns and liquidity pressure.

Japanese stock market

The Nikkei index surged after Japanese tech stocks followed Wall Street's gains, with SoftBank jumping more than 6%, leading tech stocks across the board. Tokyo Electron and Advantest saw strong buying on strong demand for chips and chipmaking equipment, while Lasertec and Renesas Electronics continued to rise, reflecting confidence in AI technology demand.

  • The Nikkei closed at 49,864.68 points, up 561.23 points, or +1.14%.

Chinese stock market

China's stock market remained under pressure from selling pressure and a weak investment climate, with the CSI 300 index falling, trailing technology and strategic producer stocks, as investors awaited policy direction from tech regulators and progress on further stimulus measures.

  • The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,878.00, down 19.71 points, or -0.51%.

Hong Kong Stock Market

The Hang Seng index continued its decline on profit-taking after a strong recovery earlier in the day, as weakness in China's market continued to weigh on trading sentiment. Tech and real estate stocks saw particularly strong sell-offs amid China's monetary policy uncertainty and stagnant capital flows.

  • The Hang Seng Index closed at 25,760.73 points, down 334.32 points or -1.28%.

South Korean stock market

The KOSPI closed significantly higher, aligning with both better-than-expected economic growth and strong buying in technology stocks, in line with global market trends. The revised Q3 GDP figure, revised up to 1.8% from 1.7%, boosted confidence in the economic recovery, while semiconductor stocks continued to saturate with buying.

  • The South Korean Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) closed at 4,036.30 points, up 41.37 points or 1.04%.
