The Cabinet approved the draft Thailand-IEA cooperation plan for 2026-2027, aimed at strengthening Thailand's energy capabilities over the next two years.

February 17, 2569 – Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Government Spokesperson It has been revealed that the Cabinet has approved the draft cooperation plan between the Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Thailand and the International Energy Agency (IEA) for the years 2026-2027, as proposed by the Ministry of Energy.

The approval is ready to authorize the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, or his/her designated representative, to sign the said project plan on February 17-18, 2569, in Paris, France.

Deputy Spokesperson said This cooperation plan builds upon existing collaboration and aims to strengthen Thailand's energy capabilities over the next two years. It covers key areas including: exchanging energy data and statistics according to international standards; preparing for energy emergencies; promoting energy efficiency; developing energy policies and models; expanding renewable energy, electricity systems, and digital technologies; and cooperating on low-carbon energy technologies and greenhouse gas emission reduction.

Furthermore, it encompasses regional and global cooperation, such as the preparation of the Southeast Asia Energy Outlook report, the review of ASEAN's energy security, personnel exchange, training, and the continuous enhancement of Thailand's energy capabilities.

Deputy Spokesperson specify that This cooperation program serves as a policy and academic framework, creating no binding international legal obligations and not creating any obligations for the next cabinet. The Ministry of Energy has already allocated the necessary budget to support the activities.

This Thai-IEA collaboration will help enhance the management of the country's energy sector, support the development of energy policies aligned with global trends, strengthen energy security, and accelerate the transition to clean energy, aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring sustainable economic growth for Thailand.
