to evaluate FTSE Russell ESG Recently, the AirAsia Group demonstrated strong performance on both the Malaysian and Thai stock exchanges for 2567. In the assessed year, AirAsia's short-haul airline's ESG performance was included in Capital A's disclosures and evaluated by Bursa Malaysia, while AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia were evaluated separately by the Malaysian and Thai stock exchanges, respectively.
Capital A Group saw a dramatic increase in its score to 4.0 out of a possible 5.0 (up from 3.5 the previous year*), while AirAsia X (flight code D7) scored 3.8, and Asia Aviation Public Company Limited, the operator of Thai AirAsia (flight code FD), received a score of 3.9 in the second year of the assessment. This ranking evaluates the sustainability performance of companies in 2567.
This score not only reflects the company's leading position in the stock market but also elevates the AirAsia Group to an organization with outstanding global performance when compared to other airlines under the same FTSE Russell ESG standards.
In addition, AirAsia participated in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) criteria, which evaluates publicly traded companies with a market capitalization exceeding US$1 billion. In the latest assessment based on 2567 performance, AirAsia scored 45%, which is higher than the global aviation industry average of 37%.
This success reinforces the results of the assessment according to these standards. These are two international awards received in 2025: the independent Australian flight analytics platform 42kft.com, which awarded AirAsia a perfect score of 10 across all nine evaluation categories.
Meanwhile, AirlineRatings.com, widely known for ranking the safety of airlines worldwide, recognized AirAsia as one of the top three leading low-cost airlines in its first-ever Sustainability Award.
Both awards were independently evaluated by aviation industry experts, further reinforcing credibility and reflecting their significant contribution to the Group's success.
“Over the years, we have built a solid foundation to support our ESG assessments, but our sustainability efforts go far beyond any given scoring criteria. AirAsia's sustainability efforts surpass any currently available assessment standards.”
The results for 2568 reflect the commitment and hard work of the entire team in integrating sustainability into our daily operations. We have doubled down on fuel efficiency measures and continued to invest in low-carbon technologies that offer a dual benefit: reducing fuel costs while simultaneously decreasing carbon emissions.” Yap Man Ching, Chief Sustainability Officer of AirAsia, said:
"At the same time, because the technical details of aviation sustainability are complex, we work closely with regulators, industry partners, and passengers to communicate our carbon reduction strategy as clearly as possible, ensuring we can deliver a lasting positive impact on both our business and our region," she added.
Initiatives that have led to these outcomes include AirAsia's proactive role in managing regulatory risks arising from climate change through engagement with policymakers such as the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Committee on Environmental Protection (CAEP) and leading Malaysia's CORSIA Working Group.
Furthermore, in 2568, AirAsia invested in enhancing carbon awareness and transparency for passengers through the AirAsia MOVE application. Passengers can now view carbon emissions per seat during flight searches, based on real-time operational data, enabling them to make more responsible and environmentally conscious decisions.
Beyond its environmental performance, AirAsia is committed to promoting social sustainability as a signatory to the UN Women and UN Global Compact's Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Furthermore, the Group is a pioneering member of the WEPs Corporate Action Lab, supporting initiatives that increase women's workforce participation in Malaysia, aligning with the MADANI Economic Framework.
