The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced good news: access to three Thai crew members on board the Mayuree Naree has been reached. Meanwhile, the BCP vessel passed through the Strait of Hormuz safely after Thailand coordinated with Iran to ensure the safety of the Thai ship.

On March 24, 2026, at 7:10 PM, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, briefed the press on the latest developments and stances in the Middle East. He stated that the United States reported negotiations with Iran, but also mentioned the deployment of additional US troops. Meanwhile, Israel remains committed to attacking various targets in Iran. Iran, on the other hand, denied any negotiations and claimed there would be further attacks.

"We feel that this is a crucial turning point. We hope that the news of diplomatic talks will be true, or at least that all parties will try to reach the diplomatic negotiating table. We don't want to see an increase in tension, a build-up of troops, or further attacks, because the whole world is already affected, and Thailand is also affected. The volatility and uncertainty are impacting every country. Therefore, we want all parties to try to find a way to negotiate."

Mr. Sihasak further stated that he had discussed two issues by telephone with the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Firstly, he requested Iranian assistance in helping Thailand rescue the "Mayuri Nari" cruise ship , which is currently adrift in Iranian waters. The fate of the three crew members still stranded on board is currently unknown. Previously, Oman had already rescued 20 crew members of the Mayuri Nari, who have since returned to Thailand.

Mr. Sihasak also stated that the Iranian ambassador had called the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to inform them that Oman and Iran had conducted a joint operation and had reached the Thai cruise ship, the Mayuri Nari. He said they had reached three crew members, but the Iranian ambassador could not confirm their fate. He added that they were trying to verify the information and hoped the three crew members were still alive. However, they needed confirmation from both Iranian and Omani authorities, as this operation was a joint effort between Iran and Oman. This was a result of his phone conversation with the Iranian Foreign Minister. He concluded by saying that they were holding onto hope but did not yet know the fate of the three crew members.

Mr. Sihasak further stated that another matter he discussed with the Iranian Foreign Minister was that he confirmed that Thailand is not a party to the conflict and that international law regarding safe navigation applies to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Following the attack on the "Mayuri Nari" ship, he requested that Iran assist in ensuring the safe passage of any Thai vessel needing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has stated that it will take care of the situation and requested that Thailand provide a list of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already informed Iran of the procedures. Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested information on two ships: one belonging to Bangchak Corporation and the other to SCG Chemical. We just received news yesterday that the Bangchak ship has safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz and is en route to Thailand. We hope that the other Thai ship will also be able to return to Thailand safely.

“This is good news, as we were able to access the Mayuri Naree. However, our concern remains the fate of the three crew members stranded on board. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Iranian authorities for their assistance and for the joint rescue operation with Oman. I also thank Oman and Iran for helping to ensure the safe passage of Thai ships and cargo vessels through the Strait of Hormuz,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
