Another Qatari LNG ship has breached Tropical Depression after Pakistan negotiated with Iran to allow energy passage, following previous attempts to turn back or be attacked amid the global energy crisis.

On May 11, 2026, at 3:31 PM, Bloomberg News reported that another liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker from Qatar was heading towards the Strait of Hormuz after Pakistan negotiated with Iran to allow some energy tankers to pass through this strategic route.

Ship tracking data indicates that the Mihzem, which has been carrying LNG from the Ras Laffan plant since late February, has entered the Iranian-claimed Strait of Hormuz and is currently heading northeast, signaling its destination as Pakistan.

If the ship successfully passes through the Strait of Hormuz, it will be only the second LNG vessel from Qatar to use this route since the Iran-Iran conflict erupted in late February.

Previously, several ships were forced to turn back mid-journey because they were unable to pass through the strait, while some were attacked while venturing out into the Oman Sea.

The de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz has resulted in approximately 20% of global LNG exports being stranded in the Persian Gulf, driving up energy prices and causing shortages in several Asian countries. Commercial ships continue to face security risks following the de facto naval blockade imposed by both Iran and the United States.

In addition, there are two more LNG tankers from Qatar in the Persian Gulf that are also signaling their destination is Pakistan. The report indicates that these shipments are part of an agreement between Pakistan and Iran to provide additional LNG to meet the country's urgent energy needs.
