Vejthani Hospital announces the successful completion of the first robotic kidney transplant in a private hospital in Thailand, resulting in reduced scarring and faster recovery.

Vejthani International Hospital successfully performed a kidney transplant from a brain-dead donor using robotic-assisted surgery technology, becoming the first private hospital in Thailand to perform such a procedure.
This kidney transplant surgery was performed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists including nephrologists, urologists, vascular surgeons, and other relevant multidisciplinary teams. They collaboratively planned to use robotic technology to replace traditional open abdominal surgery, minimizing tissue trauma, reducing blood loss, and promoting faster patient recovery.

It is stated that kidney transplantation is an effective treatment option for patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease because it helps patients regain a better, normal quality of life without relying on dialysis.
"Kidney transplantation is a complex procedure requiring high precision and accuracy. Da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgery technology helps improve the efficiency of the surgery, especially in the steps of connecting blood vessels and ureters. The first surgery went well. The Da Vinci robotic kidney transplant procedure boasts several advantages, including a high-resolution 3D imaging system that allows surgeons to clearly visualize small blood vessels and tissues; a robotic arm that moves freely in confined spaces; and minimally invasive surgery. The surgeon makes a small incision of approximately 6-7 centimeters to insert the kidney into the body, resulting in faster recovery compared to traditional kidney transplants which involve a larger incision of about 15 centimeters. This method also minimizes blood loss and reduces the risk of infection or post-operative complications.
Robot-assisted kidney transplantation is a widely accepted treatment used in leading hospitals worldwide. This achievement marks a significant medical step in enhancing the effectiveness and safety of kidney transplant treatment at Vejthani International Hospital.
However, robotic kidney transplantation is not suitable for all patients. Doctors must consider many factors, including the recipient's physical condition, the readiness of the donor's organ, and an individualized medical risk assessment.
