Asian stock markets closed mixed today (June 11, 2569), with South Korea recovering to close higher despite investors closely monitoring the conflict between the United States and Iran. The Japanese market edged slightly higher, while Chinese and Hong Kong markets closed lower due to geopolitical pressures and investor caution following further US attacks on Iran, which kept oil prices high.

Japanese stock market

The Nikkei index closed slightly higher, despite morning selling pressure stemming from concerns over the Middle East situation and downward pressure on global technology stocks. However, investors bought back towards the end of the trading session after the market assessed that geopolitical risks might not escalate as severely as initially thought. Meanwhile, investors continue to closely monitor inflation trends and the US economy.

  • The Nikkei closed at 64,217.27 points, up 38.00 points, or +0.06%.

Chinese stock market

The Shanghai Composite Index closed slightly lower amid cautious investment sentiment following renewed tensions between the US and Iran. Investors are hesitant to invest in risky assets and are awaiting developments in international politics and the future direction of the global economy.

  • The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,987.01, down 6.21 points, or -0.16%.

Hong Kong Stock Market

The Hang Seng Index closed lower for the second consecutive day, pressured by selling in technology and growth stocks as investors reduced their holdings of risky assets due to uncertainty in the Middle East. In addition, global market volatility and rising energy prices also impacted investor confidence.

  • The Hang Seng Index closed at 24,249.29 points, down 158.67 points or -0.65%.

South Korean stock market

KOSPI reversed course to close higher despite a heavy selling pressure at the start, fueled by concerns over technology stocks and the situation in the Middle East. However, investors bought back into some large-cap stocks after the previous day's sharp correction. Meanwhile, investors are also watching for Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, on a visit to South Korea next week to discuss AI collaboration with Samsung and other major technology companies.

  • The South Korean Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) closed at 7,763.95 points, up 33.13 points or 0.43%.
