The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) joins hands with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) to launch the “MASTER PROTECT & WEALTH BOARD GAME HACKATHON 2026”.

The Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC), in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT), three key financial institutions in the country, are joining forces with a network of board game partners: the Institute for Board Games for Learning, the Board Game Association of Thailand, and the Board Game Manufacturers and Designers Association, to launch a project to enhance and develop innovative financial planning and learning media. They are now accepting applications for the “MASTER PROTECT & WEALTH BOARD GAME HACKATHON 2026” to design and develop a board game. This initiative aims to provide a platform for people of all ages with innovative ideas to create prototype financial planning board games that transform complex concepts into relatable, easy-to-understand, and fun learning experiences through “learning through play.”

June 15, 2569 – Mr. Chuchat Pramunphon, Secretary-General of the OIC. The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) stated that it is further developing new learning materials in the form of board games. This year, the project aims to strengthen and develop innovative learning materials in financial planning under the cooperation of the three agencies: the OIC, the SEC, and the Bank of Thailand. The goal is to promote "financial planning," a crucial life skill, as knowledge that is more accessible and easier for the public to understand.

The board game design and development competition, under the theme "MASTER PROTECT & WEALTH," integrates three key dimensions of financial knowledge: money management and financial discipline; wealth creation and growth through investment; and risk management through insurance. This allows players to practice critical thinking, analysis, planning, and decision-making through simulated, realistic scenarios, providing a fun, easy-to-understand, and practical experience applicable to daily life.

The “MASTER PROTECT & WEALTH BOARD GAME HACKATHON 2026” is not just a competition or board game development event, but a creative hub that provides an opportunity for people of all ages and diverse backgrounds—students, teachers, educators, creators, game developers, finance enthusiasts, and the general public—to share their experiences, perspectives, and creative ideas. The goal is to collaboratively design board games that serve as “learning tools of the future” and contribute to the development of board games that effectively impart financial knowledge.

The project aims to transform the way financial planning is taught, shifting what is often perceived as complex and inaccessible into something relatable, fun, and memorable. Using a board game as a tool, the project creates an engaging learning experience, allowing players to "try and fail," practice decision-making, and understand the consequences of different financial planning choices within a safe context before applying them to real life.

Mr. Chuchat stated that, following the development of the prototype board game, the OIC (Office of Insurance Commission) has a key plan to promote the development of the game for use as an "educational board game" in educational institutions and learning centers nationwide. It will be distributed to network schools, educational institutions, libraries, and various learning spaces so that teachers, students, and youth can use it to simulate financial situations, learn money management, investment, and the appropriate use of insurance as a risk management tool. This will help build financial literacy and risk management discipline among Thais from an early age.

This year, board games will be developed to be easier to play and have more suitable playing times, making them more interesting and aligned with players' behavior.

Furthermore, the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) plans to organize the "OIC Board Game Tournament 2026" at the national level, providing an opportunity for participating educational institutions and the general public to participate in a board game competition, test their financial planning skills, and compete for cash prizes and trophies.

This project marks another significant step in advancing financial planning knowledge in the country, through a collaboration between the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Bank of Thailand. It aims to provide the public, especially children and youth, with easy-to-understand, fun, and practical knowledge of money management, wealth growth, and risk management through insurance. This is achieved through a learning process that encourages everyone to participate in brainstorming and creating innovative learning experiences.

Interested parties are invited to apply for the “MASTER PROTECT & WEALTH BOARD GAME HACKATHON 2026” from June 15 to July 10, 2569. The list of those selected for the first round will be announced on July 13, 2569, and the Hackathon Day will be held on July 18-19, 2569.
