Tipaya Insurance, Krungthai Insurance, and Visa are transforming Thai tuk-tuks into Thailand's first cashless tourism destination, accepting payments via EDC machines and providing insurance coverage for both drivers and passengers.

Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited together with Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited visa debut The "Thai Tuk-Tuk Towards Cashless Tourism" project. Thailand is piloting the installation of electronic payment terminals (EDC) on tuk-tuks for the first time, supporting debit cards, credit cards, and QR code payments from both Thailand and abroad. This caters to the modern tourist's preference for cashless payments.

The project began by installing EDC (Electronic Data Capture) devices on 60–80 tuk-tuks belonging to the mass tuk-tuk cooperative in the initial phase, before expanding to cover 10–15% of all tuk-tuks in Bangkok by 2570. The aim is to improve service standards, increase income opportunities for drivers, and facilitate travel for tourists from around the world.

In addition to upgrading its payment system, Krungthai Bank has also launched the "Krungthai Care Tuk-Tuk Debit Card" for tuk-tuk drivers in the cooperative. This card is covered by Tipaya Insurance, providing 24-hour accident coverage, including medical expenses up to 5,000 baht per incident without upfront payment, and coverage for death or total permanent disability up to 100,000 baht.

Meanwhile, Thipya Insurance is also providing free accident insurance coverage to 2,500 tuk-tuk passengers, covering death or total permanent disability with a sum insured of 100,000 baht, to build confidence in travel and elevate the safety standards of Thai tourism transportation services.

“This collaboration between Dhipaya Insurance, Krungthai Bank, and Visa reflects the synergy of strengths in insurance, finance, and payment technology to drive Thailand's payment ecosystem towards a cashless society. It also aims to enhance the Thai tourism experience, increase convenience and security, and create sustainable economic opportunities for local businesses.”
