The Cabinet has approved the establishment of a committee to push for Thailand's membership in the OECD by 2571.

The Cabinet approved the draft MOU between the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and the OECD to leverage international expertise in designing and implementing the 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan. A large committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, was also established with the goal of Thailand becoming a member by 2571.

It has been revealed that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul prioritizes the development, improvement, and amendment of government regulations to expedite public administration, as stated in his policy statement to Parliament in April 2569. He aims for various agencies to accelerate Thailand's membership in the OECD by 2571. This will benefit all Thais by raising the standards of public administration, modernizing and internationalizing laws, enhancing national credibility, and increasing investor confidence from around the world.

Furthermore, the Cabinet meeting on July 7, 2026, approved the draft agreement between the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as proposed by the NESDC. The OECD will provide knowledge, analytical tools, and activities to support the preparation of the 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan. The scope of cooperation under the draft agreement will be divided into two phases:

• Phase 1 The OECD supports strategic foresight processes to analyze trends, uncertainties, and their impact on a country's development direction.
• Phase 2 The OECD collaborates to design innovative mechanisms and driving forces for the plan, applying best practices from member countries in developing guidelines.

“The Cabinet also approved in principle the draft Prime Minister's Office Regulation on the Committee overseeing Thailand's membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which will consist of 17 members with the Prime Minister as Chairperson. This will be highly beneficial in supporting the efficient and holistic process of OECD membership, as well as accelerating efforts to achieve Thailand's goal of OECD membership by 2571 through concrete and legally sound mechanisms.”
