The Constitutional Court has scheduled a hearing on August 26th regarding the case of election ballots with QR codes and barcodes.

The Constitutional Court has scheduled a hearing on August 26, 69, regarding the case of election ballots containing QR codes and barcodes. The petitioners argue that these could potentially allow for the verification of voters' identities and voting results, thus violating the principle of secret voting as guaranteed by the Constitution.
On July 9, 2026, at 1:45 PM, the Constitutional Court considered 22 complaints received from the Ombudsman. These complaints requested the Court to consider submitting a petition with its opinion regarding the Election Commission's (EC) conduct of the general election for members of the House of Representatives on February 8, 2026. The complaints alleged that the EC's use of barcodes and QR codes in the printing of ballots, which could potentially be traced and verified, rendered the voting process neither secret nor confidential. This was argued to be in violation of Articles 4, 25, 32, 34, 85, 95, and 224 of the Constitution.
After deliberation, the Constitutional Court deemed it appropriate to schedule a witness hearing for August 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Constitutional Court.
