If the agreement is reached, it would be a significant step for Meta in expanding from a user of its internal infrastructure to a commercial AI computing service provider.
On July 18, 2569, CNBC news agency reported that Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI model, is in preliminary negotiations with Meta Platforms. To lease artificial intelligence (AI) computing power in a deal that could be worth up to US$10 billion over a two-year period.
The report states that Anthropic made an offer to Meta back in June, proposing a monthly subscription fee with the option to terminate early. However, negotiations are still in their early stages and may not reach an agreement.
For Anthropic, adding AI compute resources will help support the growing demand for developing and serving AI models, while the company already has infrastructure partners including Amazon, Google, and SpaceX.
From Meta's perspective, if the deal goes through, it would represent a significant shift in its role, from investing in data centers to support internal AI workloads to generating revenue by leasing infrastructure to external clients—a market currently dominated by major cloud providers.
