Amidst a volatile global situation, many may ask: “Sustainability” Is it still the world's top focus, as every business faces pressure and must prioritize survival above all else? The answer is... "yes" Survival is a pressing issue for every business, but it's undeniable that driving sustainability is also a condition for survival.

Interestingly, today the world isn't measured by announced sustainability goals, but by actual results. The word... "Decarbonization Reducing greenhouse gas emissions has therefore become central to modern business operations, not only to cope with climate change but also to enhance operational efficiency, reduce business risks, and build competitiveness in a world transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

One organization that demonstrates that decarbonization is not just a declaration, but a tangible action that produces real results is… CK Power Public Company Limited หรือ CKPower A Thai electricity producer and distributor, driving its vision to become one of the largest renewable energy producers in the region with one of the lowest carbon footprints, won two awards for two projects at the Thailand-Japan Decarbonization Award 2026 (TJDA), reinforcing its commitment to conducting business in support of the Net Zero goal by 2050.

CKPower's project clearly demonstrates that decarbonization can occur in every aspect of business operations if it is continuously designed, improved, and managed appropriately. Furthermore, it reinforces the drive for sustainability under our strategy. "CKP” The two projects interestingly focus on the environment (C – Clean Electricity), society (K – Kind Neighbor), and corporate governance and the economy (P – Partnership for Life). The details of both projects are as follows:

1. Waste and wastewater management project in the energy production process from Bang Pa-in Cogeneration Power Plant: This is an efficient water resource management approach for electricity generation, focusing on managing lubrication oil usage to reduce waste and improving water efficiency in cooling systems through chemical control adjustments to enable greater water reuse. The project has reduced water usage by over 743 million liters, saving over 19.5 million baht. It has also reduced lubrication oil usage by over 28,000 liters, saving over 2.6 million baht. Importantly, it has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 95,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent. In the long term, CKPower plans to expand this system to other utilities to further enhance efficiency and reduce waste.

2. The Waste to Value Firefly Project: For the conservation, protection, and restoration of natural resources and the environment from the Xayaburi hydroelectric power plant. This project involves transforming organic waste from food scraps at the power plant into soil conditioner, promoting environmentally friendly agriculture, and educating youth and community members on environmental issues. The project reduces carbon dioxide emissions from waste incineration by over 3,840 kilograms. Furthermore, it produces 2,665 kilograms of soil conditioner per year, which can be distributed to communities surrounding the power plant, saving them over 72,900 baht per year in fertilizer costs.

CKPower also plans to expand its local collaboration network to drive community innovation that helps maintain environmental balance, supports organic farming, and reinforces the private sector's role in creating value for society.

Interestingly, both projects reflect the driving force of decarbonization in two interconnected dimensions. The waste and wastewater management project demonstrates that carbon reduction starts with improving efficiency within the production process, while the Waste to Value project shows that carbon reduction not only creates value for the organization but also extends to benefit the community and the environment simultaneously. Therefore, these are not just environmental projects, but reflect CKPower's business philosophy that views sustainability and efficiency as simultaneous development.

The key factors behind the success of both projects are the integration of vision and the expertise of their personnel, the development of innovations from real-world operational problems, and the participation of stakeholders at all levels. This concept is translated into practical implementation, with CKPower integrating innovation management into its business ethics to enhance employee capabilities and develop knowledge in engineering and efficient resource management. This approach enables CKPower to continuously cultivate more innovators within the organization.

The results clearly reflect this. By 2568, CKPower will have accumulated 25 innovation projects and developed 60 innovators within the organization. Furthermore, it will transfer knowledge to 2,780 stakeholders. The innovations that have been put into practical use have helped reduce energy consumption by 21,454 megawatt-hours per year, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3,998.42 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, reduce water usage by 107,751 cubic meters per year, and reduce energy costs by more than 16.54 million baht per year. All these figures indicate that creating innovators does not end with inventing new innovations, but can be translated into measurable results in terms of the environment, the economy, and the long-term competitiveness of the organization.

In a world where organizations are no longer measured by sustainability declarations but by tangible results, CKPower is demonstrating that decarbonization is not a cost of doing business, but rather the foundation for strong and sustainable growth in the future. Ultimately, reducing carbon is not just about protecting the planet, but about building a strong, competitive, and sustainable business in this new world.
