The Cabinet has approved Thailand's 5-year fisheries plan, comprising 4 strategies and 18 tactics, aimed at conserving aquatic resources, addressing IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing, and elevating Thai fisheries towards sustainability.

This plan will serve as a framework for managing and developing the country's fisheries over the next five years, aligning with resource, economic, and environmental conditions, as well as international trade regulations, with the aim of elevating Thai fisheries to achieve balanced and sustainable growth.
Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office said The Thai fisheries sector is a crucial foundation for the country's food security and economy, but it faces challenges from declining fish resources, the impacts of climate change, illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and international trade standards. Therefore, the government has established this policy and plan to guide the development of the entire Thai fisheries system, from resource conservation and fisheries management to aquaculture and the development of related industries.
The plan outlines a roadmap driven by four strategies and eighteen tactics, encompassing the conservation and restoration of aquatic resources and ecosystems; sustainable fisheries management; capacity building for fishermen and entrepreneurs; product standardization; promotion of technology and innovation; and value-added fisheries products, all aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the Thai fishing industry in the global market.
Captain Pattarasmi said The approval of this fisheries management policy and plan will be a crucial mechanism for balancing the utilization and conservation of aquatic resources, while simultaneously improving the quality of life for fishermen, increasing the value of the fishing industry, and building confidence in Thai fisheries products in the global market.
