DAD showcases innovations beneath the ground at the Government Complex in Chaeng Wattana, utilizing green architecture to sustainably solve the flooding problem on Chaeng Wattana Road.

Many people's memory of Chaeng Wattana Road during the rainy season is of recurring flooding, hindering both travel and daily life for those who use it, including government officials, workers, and the general public. However, a model of sustainable water management is hidden within a vast area of over 378 rai. Although the Government Complex in Chaengwattana is located at the beginning of this road, it does not create an additional burden on the drainage system of the area.  This provides empirical evidence that "architecture" and "innovation" can be combined to create a shield and a tangible solution to environmental problems.

Architecture that anticipates crises and ensures water security. 24 hours

Dr. Theethat Suksa-ard, Managing Director of Thanarak Asset Development Company Limited (DAD Asset Development).  This illustrates the design concept of the infrastructure, which is like the lifeblood of the Government Complex commemorating His Majesty the King's 60th birthday, based on the 22-year vision of the Treasury Department's Asset Development Company Limited.  The water supply system here is designed to receive water through two parallel main pipes to prevent interruptions. A large underground water tank is installed beneath the engineering building to provide a water reserve for government officials and the public in emergencies for up to two full days. Additional water tanks are distributed along the building's axes for maximum reliability.

"Underground retention ponds" absorb rainwater without burdening residents of Chaeng Watthana.

DAD transformed the government center area into an Urban Sponge, integrating over 138 rai of green space to function as a high-efficiency water retention system. This system has a total water storage capacity of 23,842 cubic meters, divided into 18,540 cubic meters from green areas to absorb water and 5,320 cubic meters from the tree canopy to block water flow.

When heavy rain falls, the system immediately stores and retains the water to prevent it from overwhelming the public drainage system on Chaeng Wattana Road. The water will be gradually released as the external situation improves. This system can handle rainfall equivalent to the heaviest rainfall in 125 years. Furthermore, the system "drains" water before the rainy season, and during the dry season, the stored water is used to nourish plants without relying on tap water.

Shifting the concept to “"Zero Discharge" wastewater treatment and reuse.

Under the Zero Discharge philosophy at the Government Complex, wastewater from kitchens and bathrooms is separated at the source before entering an activated sludge treatment system. Recently, DAD has upgraded its technology to support Zone C, utilizing intelligent computer control combined with advanced filtration systems such as Ultrafiltration and Ozone for disinfection, along with real-time BOD monitoring. This ensures that treated water meets international standards before being reused for watering plants, cleaning streets, and sanitary systems.

Tangible success, evidenced by national awards.

This integrated water management model is guaranteed by... "The "Gold Award for Exemplary Government Building in Wastewater Management (110 points total)" in 2563 reflects that investing in environmentally conscious innovation from the outset not only reduces costs and prevents disasters but also creates sustainability for surrounding communities. This is the answer to solving the problems of flooding and drought in large cities today.
