According to testimony filed in the Virginia District Court, Patrick Steven Yaroch contacted the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) last week to admit that he made a serious mistake regarding his cryptocurrency wallet.

FBI documents specify that Yarosh used his access to internal agency systems to find private keys controlling cryptocurrency wallets linked to accounts connected to countries at odds with the United States, before transferring assets to his own accounts.

Investigators specify that Yaroj began transferring cryptocurrency in late 2567 or early 2568, completing approximately 10 transactions totaling around $1 million USD.

The documents also state that on July 29, Jarosh met with a Ministry of Justice official he knew personally and immediately began to cry as he recounted the events, admitting that he chose to turn himself in because of overwhelming guilt and shame.

He claimed that he became acquainted with the wallets during an investigation in November 2567 and, frustrated that the FBI was unable or unwilling to take action against the accounts, used the agency's system to find the digital keys and transfer the money into his own account.

However, he insists that he has never been in contact with or had any relationship with the account holder or any foreign entity associated with the said wallet.

Last week, the FBI searched Yarosh's home and car. He cooperated by unlocking his phone using Face ID and a password, allowing officers access to accounts on the Kraken cryptocurrency trading platform. They also discovered he used the Slush application and was connected to Project Suilend to facilitate asset transfers.

Furthermore, an examination of the phone revealed that in May of this year... Yarosh once asked ChatGPT. that "If I had $1 million, how would you recommend investing or using the money to maximize returns and profits?"

He also stated that he is 37 years old, has a family and young children, and aims to retire around the age of 40 before moving to live abroad, such as in Portugal.

The FBI fired Yarosh on July 31, the same day he was arrested. He is currently charged with transporting and receiving assets, money, and securities obtained through cross-state theft.
