European stock markets opened lower following a new round of retaliatory attacks between the US and Iran, pushing Brent crude oil prices up 2% to around $90.70 per barrel.

On August 31, 2569, at 14.27:5 PM, Reuters reported that European stock markets opened lower on Monday following a new military offensive between the US and Iran, which pushed oil prices and bond yields higher. However, the STOXX 600 index is still on track to close higher for the fifth consecutive month.

The STOXX 600 index, which covers stocks across Europe, was stable at around 655 points at 07:12 GMT after opening in negative territory. The London stock market was closed for a bank holiday.

Energy stocks rose 0.6% following a more than 2% jump in Brent crude oil prices to around $90.70 per barrel amid renewed tensions between the United States and Iran.

On Sunday, U.S. forces attacked two Iranian missile launch sites on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first publicly known U.S. military operation against Iran since late July.

Iranian media reported that Tehran retaliated by attacking two US air bases in Jordan, reigniting investor concerns about geopolitical risks and the impact on global energy supply.

Germany's DAX index fell 0.5% ahead of the release of inflation data for Germany, the eurozone's largest economy, which could provide further insight into the European Central Bank's (ECB) interest rate policy outlook.

Investors are also watching eurozone inflation data and U.S. nonfarm payroll figures, scheduled for release later this week, to assess the monetary policy outlook of major central banks.

Shares of Bakkafrost, a Faroe Islands salmon producer, fell 7.1%, becoming one of the biggest losers in the STOXX 600 index, after the company reported its second-quarter earnings.
