Anutin Charnvirakul is preparing to welcome Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to the 5th Thailand–Singapore Leaders' Retreat to strategize between Thailand and Singapore before Anutin takes over the ASEAN chairmanship.
On September 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is ready to welcome His Excellency Mr. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, who will visit Thailand to attend the 5th Thailand–Singapore Leaders' Retreat on September 2, 2026, at the invitation of the Prime Minister. This marks the first Leaders' Retreat between the two countries in 11 years.
During this meeting, the two leaders will jointly determine the direction of future Thailand-Singapore cooperation, focusing on concrete results in various areas, including promoting clean energy, cooperation in rice trade, cross-border payment system connectivity, tourism, and combating online fraud. They will also exchange views on regional and international situations.
The spokesperson for the Prime Minister said that the two leaders will jointly endorse a joint statement on the forward-looking strategic partnership between Thailand and Singapore, which will serve as a framework to drive relations and build upon the strengths of both countries towards cooperation that creates tangible benefits for the people.
This meeting is also significant from an ASEAN perspective, as Singapore and Thailand will assume the ASEAN chairmanship consecutively in 2570 and 2571, respectively. Therefore, it provides an opportunity for the leaders of both countries to exchange views and coordinate approaches to strengthen ASEAN's unity amidst rapidly changing economic and geopolitical challenges.
In addition, both sides are scheduled to exchange a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Social and Family Development of the Republic of Singapore on cooperation in social development, in order to further enhance cooperation in the social dimension and the quality of life of the people.
On September 2, 2569, the two Prime Ministers will attend the 5th Thailand–Singapore Leaders' Retreat at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bangkok, before witnessing the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding and holding a joint press conference. Following this, the Thai Prime Minister will host a dinner in honor of the Singaporean Prime Minister at the Santi Maitri Building, Government House.
