The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) hosted The Bangkok Business Summit 2026 under the theme "Reinvent Thailand, Resilient ASEAN," aiming to transform Thailand, strengthen ASEAN, foster collaboration in adapting to a changing world, attract investment, enhance competitiveness, and achieve sustainable growth.

3 September 2569 Mr. Payong Srivanich, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee of Public and Private Sector Organizations (JCCR). In his opening remarks at The Bangkok Business Summit 2026 “Resilient ASEAN: Asia's Next Growth Story Starts Here,” he stated that at a time when the world is facing significant changes, geopolitics is playing a role in shaping trade and investment, artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies are transforming industries, energy transitions are restructuring the cost and economics of production, and global supply chains are being rearranged and redesigned.

For Thailand and ASEAN, this is a crucial time in competing to attract a new wave of investment, relocation and expansion of supply chains, high-value economic activity, and the creation of high-income and quality jobs. Thailand enters this competition with a strong foundation, including industrial potential, continuously developing infrastructure, a strategic location, transportation and trade connectivity, and a robust financial system.

The challenges facing Thailand at this time. It's about turning these strengths into reality. We must move from potential to action, and from opportunity to sustainable growth. The Bangkok Business provides a platform for collaboratively creating and driving real change, bringing together the government, business, financial sectors, international organizations, and development partners to define the key agenda for the future.

“Because major changes cannot occur through fragmented approaches, increased productivity must be linked to workforce skills development; investment must be linked to access to funding, regulations, and infrastructure; and the energy transition is directly linked to competitiveness. We need a comprehensive approach that encompasses all sectors of society, where each sector leverages its strengths, has clear responsibilities, and collaborates to achieve measurable results.”

Mr. Phayong In addition, the private sector is playing a more significant role in identifying obstacles hindering investment and productivity. The private sector must invest in building new capabilities and new growth engines, and must help Thai businesses, from large corporations to SMEs, to move up into higher-value regional and global supply chains. The government and the private sector should support each other in this process.

“The government paves the way, the business sector builds the future, and ultimately, economic growth must benefit the people. This is why the theme of this conference connects two concepts: Reinvent Thailand, Resilient ASEAN.”

However, Thailand has deep connections to ASEAN's production, trade, logistics, food, energy, and financial networks. As Thailand's competitiveness increases, the region's supply chains will become stronger. Upgrading digital and financial connectivity will facilitate business operations and market access across ASEAN. Investing in resilient and low-carbon infrastructure will enhance the region's overall competitiveness.

A stronger Thailand means a stronger ASEAN.

Mr. Phayong further stated that, at the same time, a more interconnected and resilient ASEAN will help expand economic opportunities for Thailand and all its neighboring countries. Therefore, 2569 is an excellent year for us to move forward with these important agendas. The World Bank will launch a key report, "Building Thailand's Future Today," which presents a roadmap for Thailand to become a high-income country.

And this October, Bangkok will have the honor of hosting the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group for the second time, after Thailand first hosted them in 2534. Furthermore, in 2571, Thailand will assume the chairmanship of ASEAN. These significant events are all milestones on the same path.

“The goal of The Bangkok Business Summit 2026 is clear: to shift from talk to action, from ideas to issues, from issues to those responsible, and from responsibility to measurable results. Looking ahead, I sincerely hope that what we begin in Bangkok today will form the foundation for deeper cooperation among the private sectors in ASEAN.”

However, in the future, this may lead to the establishment of... “Flagship Regional Business Summit” หรือ An important regional business platform. To create a space for businesses from ASEAN member countries to jointly define key agendas, set common directions, and enhance the region's competitiveness, while creating opportunities that benefit the economy, SMEs, people, and communities throughout the region.

"If we make the most of this opportunity, 2569 could be the beginning of a new chapter in Thailand's growth story, and a significant step for Thailand to contribute to opening a new chapter of ASEAN's growth."
