TSMC's August revenue surged 53%, breaking records, driven by strong demand for AI chips.

TSMC generated NT$5.148 billion in revenue in August, a 53.3% increase from the previous year and marking the fourth consecutive month of growth. Its global foundry market share reached 72.5%, significantly outpacing Samsung and SMIC.
On September 10, 2026, at 12:49 PM, CNBC reported that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, revealed record-breaking August revenue amid strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
TSMC reported August revenue of NT$5.148 billion, or approximately US$1.635 billion, a 53.3% increase from the same period last year and a 10.1% increase from July. This marks the fourth consecutive month of revenue growth for the company. TSMC shares closed down 0.61% on Thursday ahead of the company's revenue release.
Previously, in its Q2 earnings report in July, TSMC stated that demand related to AI remains extremely strong, with the company reporting a more than 77% year-on-year increase in Q2 profits and forecasting Q3 revenue of $4.46 billion to $4.58 billion.
TSMC continues to dominate the global foundry market, leaving competitors far behind. According to TrendForce data, the company held a 72.5% market share in the second quarter, while strong demand for AI server processors resulted in fully booked production capacity for advanced 5nm, 4nm, and 3nm chips throughout the quarter.
Samsung Foundry ranked second with a 5.9% market share, followed by China's SMIC with 5.4%.
The world's top 10 largest chip manufacturers recorded record revenues of nearly $5.349 billion in the second quarter, driven in part by production capacity constraints for advanced technologies used in AI and high-performance computing (HPC) chips.
In addition, TSMC and ASML, a Dutch manufacturer of semiconductor industrial machinery, announced a collaboration this week to drive the transition to next-generation chip manufacturing technology.
TSMC stated that it plans to deploy ASML's High Numerical Aperture (High NA) technology in industrial-scale advanced chip manufacturing starting in 2030 (2573) and expects its adoption to increase as AI applications require more sophisticated transistor architectures.
The record-breaking August revenue figures reinforce TSMC's competitive advantage as the global foundry market leader, amidst continued investment in AI that fuels the demand for advanced chips.
