President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi for the first time in seven years to attend the BRICS summit and hold discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as China and India accelerate efforts to restore relations following a border dispute.
On September 12, 2569, Reuters reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi, India's capital, on Saturday to attend the BRICS summit and hold discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to images broadcast by Indian television.
This visit marks Xi Jinping's first trip to India in seven years and comes at a time when the two Asian neighbors are cautiously trying to restore relations after they were severely damaged by a 2020 military clash along the disputed Himalayan border that left 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers dead.
Xi Jinping stepped off the plane to a red carpet welcome and was greeted by Indian women who performed a traditional Indian dance.
The meeting between Xi Jinping and Modi, scheduled for Saturday evening, will be their third meeting in three years, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday.
The spokesperson said that China is “willing” to work with India, view the relationship between the two countries from a strategic and long-term perspective, manage differences appropriately, and be “good neighbors and friends, as well as mutually supportive partners.”
The BRICS group comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
This summit is being held amid geopolitical tensions stemming from the US-Israeli war with Iran, the Russo-Ukraine war, and the impact these wars have on global energy, trade, and transportation.
